A Quick Vort 2 (QV2) for Parshas Shemini!!
*The Q.V. is the weekly Torah grab, for all readers, regardless of attention-span issues*

“Moshe said to Aharon: ‘Come near to the Altar and perform the service… as Hashem commanded.”
Shemos 9:7

Because Aharon was embarrassed and afraid to approach [the Altar]. Moshe said to him, ‘Why are you embarrassed? It was for this that you were chosen!’
Rashi ibid.

What is the meaning of this exchange between Moshe and Aharon? How did Moshe relieve Aharon’s reluctance in performing the service by announcing the fact the Aharon was chosen for the priesthood?

What’s Pshat?!

The Imrei Emes answers based on a Midrash that noted that when Aharon was about to begin his Divine service, an apparition of the golden calf appeared on the altar and he was therefore afraid to approach.

He further relates a principle of spiritual living taught by the leading disciple of the Arizal, Rav Chaim Vital. He writes that every one of us has a specific weakness which is our duty to work on and correct. Because these deficiencies are specific to the individual, they are difficult to discern and the yetzer hara does all that it can to prevent one from accomplishing what he needs to do.

By examining the level of difficulty that one faces, one can determine where his efforts are best directed. The fact that there is an obstacle in one’s way indicates that he has discovered the trait that he was meant to work on. If one finds that he is faced with numerous hindrances in his service to Hashem, he should understand that these are signs that his service in desired by Hashem. If he perseveres, he will be successful.

This is what Moshe was communicating to Aharon when he told him to approach the alter –Because your yetzer fills you with embarrassment and trepidation, you are to understand that it was for this role that ‘you were chosen’.

The Kedushas Shabbos Quote
~The *KSQ* os a one-line quote from a vast array of Torah sources regarding the holiness and unique nature of the Shabbos day~

*KSQ#72*
*One who sits in the delight of Shabbos is prohibited to conjure up a mundane word, for he damages the holy day; One who sits in the joy of the King, it’s not proper for him to leave the King and busy himself with another *
